Safety tips
Be cautious, don't reveal too much, too soon.
No identifying information. This means:
- No last names
- No home addresses
- No home phone numbers
- No places of employment, etc.
Keep the conversation light at first. Talk about yourself generally, your interests and hobbies. Talk about what you're looking for in a relationship.
Consider having a separate email, instant messenger, and/or cell phone just for online dating.
Remember to block your phone number from the caller ID when first talking on the phone.
If you do meet face to face, make it a public place and meet him there. Don't have him pick you up. Also, tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be home. I like to call this the "wing-man" practice. And check in with that person after the date has concluded.
