Letting science take over: eHarmony brings this young couple together
Jessica and Matthew, in their late 20s, were math and science majors in college. Preferring the scientific approach, they let eHarmony match them based on a scientific/psychological compatibility survey. Jessica and Matthew chose online dating because they both lived in small towns, where the dating pool was limited. Initially the pair had a long distance relationship.
"I just wasn't meeting the kind of men I wanted to in my small city," says Jessica. So after a great deal of thought and discussion with her friends and family she decided to give online dating a try, but she wanted to be safe and she wanted results. "I'm a logical, scientific-minded person. What I liked best about eHarmony was that it was a very thorough process," said Jessica. To say the least, her family was supportive and yet intrigued, and knew that the small city in which she lived had limited dating opportunities. Of course now they are very happy she found a compatible partner. "I wasn't embarrassed to tell my friends and family how we met, I'm actually proud. The compatibility tests we really right on, and Matthew and I get along great. I wouldn't have found him without the Internet."

On eHarmony couples must progress through the system to experience more personal levels of communication, which include: view profile, short-ended questions, must haves/can't stands, long-ended questions, and finally open communication, which allows the couple to email each other directly through the website's system. The advantage of this system is that an individual's privacy is maintained.
